Why RISE

Flag football continues to grow as an attractive youth sport. The Aspen Institute concluded that children, football, and communities are likely to benefit if flag is the game’s standard before high school.

The 2021 State of Play report found that flag football participation has surpassed tackle among kids ages 6 to 12, with most recent available data (2017) indicating girls make up nearly 18 percent of flag football participants.

RISE Flag Football is committed to providing opportunities to satisfy growing interest, for athletes of all types, fueled by the benefits our players receive, parent attention, and global support for inclusion in the 2028 Olympic Games.

Why Women’s Flag Football Is Exploding in Popularity

Women’s flag football is a rapidly growing sport in the United States. Recently, the number of girls and women playing the game has increased dramatically. There are several reasons for this, including:

  • Increased access to the sport. Now more flag football leagues and programs are available to girls and women than ever before. This has made it easier for girls and women to get involved in the sport and learn the game.
  • The rise of social media. Social media has played a significant role in the growth of women’s flag football. Videos of girls and women playing the game have gone viral, inspiring others to get involved.

As a result of these factors, women’s flag football is now one of the fastest-growing sports in the US. In 2022, over 500,000 girls and women played flag football in the US.

This number is expected to continue to grow in the years to come, and it’s why we believe in allowing everyone to play our game at UA Rise Flag Football.

A recent SBJ article on Women’s Flag Football says it best:

Here’s the bottom line: Girls already have 1.3 million fewer high school athletic opportunities than boys, according to the Women’s Sports Foundation. Limited access is one of the main reasons that teenage girls stop playing sports at twice the rate of boys.

Let’s do better.

Leaders across sectors — working in state government, athletics associations, high schools, and higher education — should consider how they can expand access to flag football, which girls have made clear is a sport of choice.
